No conspiracy behind CBN arrest: Sabitha




Hyderabad, Dec 20: The Home Minister, Ms P Sabitha Indra Reddy, on here Monday made it clear that there was no political conspiracy and revenge-taking motive behind the arrest and shifting of the fasting Leader of Opposition, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, to the NIMS hospital.

Speaking to mediapersons at Secretariat, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy explained that after 7.30 pm on Sunday, a team of doctors examined the fasting leader and said that his heath condition was deteriorating. The police officials of the rank of DCP met Mr Naidu for five times and requested him to cooperate and withdraw his hunger strike. First of all, the police officials evinced no interest to take an initiative in the matter. The team of doctors headed by the Director of Heath also requested the fasting leader to call off his hunger strike keeping in view his health condition, but the fasting leader bluntly rejected the suggestions. The government, which had moral responsibility to take care of the Leader of Opposition was forced to arrest of Mr Naidu and shifting him to the hospital. She also made it clear that police behaved most respectfully towards Mr Naidu while they took him into custody in the early hours of Monday. If there was any fault while arresting Mr Naidu, the government was ready to take action against the guilty, she added.  

Stating that elaborate security and protection arrangements were made at the venue of hunger strike of Mr Naidu, who was under Z+ security cover, the Home Minister said that two DCPs, three ACPs, 10 Inspectors and 70 SIs and constables were deployed at the New MLA quarters for security purpose.

Claiming that the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy has tried to instill confidence in distressed farmers by touring the rain-hit districts and announcing a good package to them, she felt that the Opposition parties too have equal responsibility to see that the farmers are not lost confidence.

“If he was sincere on the welfare of the farmers, Mr Naidu should withdraw his hunger strike and cooperate with the government and ensure that the benefits of announced package reached every farmer in the rain-hit areas. Similarly, I also appeal to the functionaries of Opposition parties to extend cooperation in this regard”, the Home Minister said.

She also observed that though the government may not reimburse total loss suffered by the farmers, it has announced best package to extend maximum benefits to the distressed farmers. She pointed out that the Congress government responded immediately whenever the farmers faced problems in the last six years.

The Home Minister opined that the farmers were well aware how Naidu’s government had come out with relief package when farmers faced losses due to natural calamities.

Replying to question, she said that a GO was under preparation in the Law Department for withdrawal of 565 cases against the Telangana and United Andhra agitators as announced in the Legislative Assembly. She also reiterated that she would seek an explanation from the Director General of Police (DGP) for his recent comments.
